Xinjiang promotes new building materials in rural areas

In a small village in the seven-star town of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, on March 29th, Ma Jun, a local villager, shared his positive experience with a new building material. The material Ma Jun is referring to is an EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) wall module. It is made from heat-expandable polystyrene beads and can be molded into various wall structures using special equipment. This innovative solution offers a faster, more efficient alternative to traditional building methods. Hao Hongrui, the general manager of Korla Haogong Building Materials Co., Ltd., which supplies these materials, explained that the EPS modules are used alongside reinforced concrete to replace conventional materials like bricks and mud. For a 150-square-meter house, this technology reduces material costs by approximately 15%, cuts construction time by at least 50%, and saves over 60% in labor costs. Additionally, houses built with this material provide better thermal insulation, keeping them warm in winter and cool in summer, with temperature differences of up to 3°C to 5°C compared to traditional homes. Korla Haogong is currently the first company in Xinjiang to master the EPS module wall construction technology, setting a new benchmark for sustainable development in the region. According to officials from the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the autonomous region, the promotion of green rural housing is a key focus. The EPS wall module aligns perfectly with the goals of the beautiful rural construction initiative, especially in projects aimed at improving living standards and promoting scientific development. The use of energy-efficient and insulating materials is being encouraged to drive the adoption of new building technologies. Recently, the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region issued the "EPS Module Concrete Shear Wall Structural Engineering Technical Specification" notice, which came into effect on April 1, 2014. This marked the first technical standard developed specifically for construction projects in the region. The implementation of this specification represents a significant step forward in the adoption of modern, eco-friendly building materials.
