In 2013, the Ministry of Science and Technology issued the "Regulations on the Acceptance of the National Engineering Technology Research Center," which set clear guidelines for the evaluation of research centers across various industries. Among the many candidates, the "National Photovoltaic Engineering Technology Research Center" — founded by Jiangxi LDK Company — stood out as the first national-level research center dedicated to photovoltaic technology in China. It not only met all the required standards but also demonstrated strong capabilities in innovation, research, and industrial application. The center was approved in October 2009 after a rigorous selection process. LDK was chosen for its comprehensive industrial chain, advanced technical infrastructure, and a team of skilled researchers who had already produced significant scientific achievements. Over the next three years, the center worked diligently to build its facilities and conduct cutting-edge research, despite challenges posed by the fluctuating photovoltaic market. During this period, the center led or participated in five national-level projects, 18 provincial initiatives, and over 100 internal R&D projects. It also contributed to the development of 14 national and industry standards and achieved 10 key certifications, showcasing its leadership in the field. In September and November 2013, the Ministry of Science and Technology conducted a thorough on-site evaluation of the center. A panel of experts reviewed its progress, confirmed that it had fulfilled all the objectives outlined in its feasibility study, and concluded that it met the necessary criteria for official recognition. As a result, the center was formally named and located in Xinyu, Jiangxi, solidifying its role as a key player in China's renewable energy landscape.
