HC Plastics News: BASF recently developed a new, translucent nylon product that can compete with polycarbonate.
BASF announced on October 10 that it is a semi-crystalline nylon with high light transmission and low light scattering properties, which also retains the chemical resistance, high temperature resistance and UV degradation resistance of nylon.
BASF develops new translucent nylon products
This product is ideal for applications such as level indicators and lighting fixtures. It combines the good mechanical properties and processing properties of nylon 6 and has a very attractive price. It can replace PC, amorphous aliphatic polyamide and styrene acrylonitrile polymers.
Traditional nylon is usually opaque and has a thickness of about 1 mm, but the thickness of the product can reach several millimeters. It is capable of maintaining optical properties under high temperature and humidity conditions and is resistant to abrasion and flame retardancy.
Its outstanding UV resistance allows it to be in direct contact with sunlight and can be used in sunscreens, cleaners, solvents and more.
