The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released the performance of the leather industry in January-April 2014

First, Sales Performance

From January to April 2014, the cumulative export delivery value of leather tanning and processing reached 3.69 billion yuan, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 24.8%. The industry's production and sales rate stood at 97.9%, marking an improvement of 0.2 percentage points compared to the same period in 2013. Meanwhile, the export delivery value for leather products manufacturing amounted to 26.13 billion yuan, showing a cumulative growth of 10.5% year-on-year. The production and sales rate for this sector was 98.1%, up by 0.3 percentage points from the previous year.

In April alone, the export value of leather tanning and processing rose to 1.14 billion yuan, representing a 33.5% increase over the same month in 2013. However, the production and sales rate dropped slightly to 97.3%, down by 0.5 percentage points from the previous year. For leather products manufacturing, the export delivery value reached 7.41 billion yuan, up 9.8% year-on-year, with a production and sales rate of 97.3%, nearly unchanged from the same period in 2013. In contrast, the export value of fur tanning and product processing fell to 880 million yuan, a decrease of 4.7% year-on-year, while the production and sales rate remained strong at 98.0%, up 1.1 percentage points from the previous year.

Second, Financial Performance

During the first four months of 2014, the main business revenue for leather tanning and processing totaled 47.35 billion yuan, an increase of 10.3% compared to the same period last year. The cumulative profit reached 2.93 billion yuan, rising by 22.4% year-on-year, while total taxes paid amounted to 1.38 billion yuan, up 21.0% from the previous year. For leather products manufacturing, the main business revenue was 88.42 billion yuan, a cumulative increase of 14.8% year-on-year. Total profits were 5.39 billion yuan, up 15.9%, and total taxes amounted to 2.36 billion yuan, growing by 16.8%.

The main business revenue for fur tanning and product processing reached 22.78 billion yuan, an increase of 9.2% year-on-year. Cumulative profits totaled 2.14 billion yuan, rising by 15.8%, and total taxes amounted to 610 million yuan, increasing by 18.9% compared to the same period in 2013.
