Automatic retrieval of standard parts with matching assembly dimensions

The more standardized components involved in the design reuse process, the more complex the assembly relationships become, and the more intricate the product design becomes. This demands that designers possess strong design experience and a deep understanding of the underlying principles. Typically, the design process follows certain rules—both general design procedures and industry-specific knowledge. When these elements are organized within a standard parts library management system, it significantly enhances design efficiency and minimizes errors during the design phase. One key aspect of design process reuse is rapid assembly. This feature allows the system to automatically identify hole faces on the assembly base, calculate the dimensions of each hole, and then select and assemble standard components that match those dimensions. Users can also choose pre-defined sub-assemblies of standard parts, such as bolts, washers, and nuts, based on their specific needs. Building upon the theory of knowledge reuse, this system is developed using UG as the core platform, implemented with C and C++ programming languages. It automates the design of standard parts and greatly improves overall design efficiency. For instance, in the case of quick assembly, the process works as follows: The user drags a bolt from the navigation bar to one side of the base. The system then performs several automated steps. First, size matching occurs: if the bolt is placed on a flat surface, the system calculates the thickness of the base; if placed on a cylindrical surface, it calculates the diameter and height of the cylinder. Then, it selects an appropriate bolt that matches the dimensions of the base. Next, the system applies assembly constraints automatically—on a plane, a fitting constraint is created between the base and the bolt; on a cylindrical surface, a coaxial constraint is applied between the two components. This approach not only streamlines the design workflow but also ensures consistency and accuracy, making the design process more intuitive and efficient for engineers.

Globe Valve

The globe valve is used to cut off the flow of the medium. The globe valve is suitable for frequently opened occasions. The sealing parts of the globe valve are the disc and the valve seat. In order to make the globe valve close tightly, the mating surface of the disc and the valve seat should be grinding or using gaskets. The sealing surface can also be inset with bronze, stainless steel and other corrosion-resistant and wear-resistant materials. The disc and stem of the globe valve are connected with each other, so that the disc and stem are closely fitted. The lifting of the disc of the globe valve is generally controlled by the stem. The upper part of the stem of the globe valve is the handwheel, and the middle part is the thread and packing sealing section. The role of the packing is to prevent the internal medium of the valve body from leaking along the stem.
