Demonstration Cultivation of Super Ratoon Rice in Fujian Province

On the 11th, the Fujian Academy of Agricultural Sciences organized experts from both inside and outside the province to go to Mayang Town of Youxi County and field acceptance of 103.4 mu II Youhang No. 2 demonstration plot of renewable rice during the harvest season. The average yield per mu was 524.5 kg. In the previous quarter, the yield was 864.6 kg, and the number of acres per mu of II Youhang No. 2 was 1389.1 kg per year, all reaching the level of super-high yield.

Rejuvenated rice adapted to the climate of the South uses rice bran harvested in the first season to grow for another quarter. This is more economical than the double cropping rice, and solves the problem of poor rice quality. It is a resource-saving rice cultivation system. Since 1999, the Fujian Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the Youxi County Bureau of Agriculture have established a super high-yielding demonstration model of ratoon rice, identified and screened super rice varieties suitable for ratoon rice, and studied super high yield cultivation techniques.

Under the auspices of the academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Xie Huaan, the Fujian Academy of Agricultural Sciences screened out five high-yield and regenerative crops in the first quarter of Suiyouming 86, II Youming 86, II Youhang No. 1, II Youhang 148, and II You Hang No. 2. Strong new varieties, demonstration and promotion of cultivated rice cultivation in Youxi, from 2000 onwards, the mu yield reached more than 800 kilograms in the first quarter, more than 400 kilograms in the reproductive season, and exceeded 1200 kilograms in the year. II You Hang No. 1 created a record of 543.3 kilograms per mu in the regeneration season in 2003, and the following year set a record of 928.3 kilograms in the first quarter of 100 acres and 1449.7 kilograms in the whole year.

At the same time as the demonstration plots have achieved high yields, renewable rice has also been promoted in Youxi County and other places in Fujian Province. In recent years, Youxi has planted nearly 100,000 mu of renewable rice each year, with an average yield of 600 kilograms in the first quarter and 300 kilograms in the regeneration season. Fujian Province has promoted 600,000 hectares of renewable rice this year, and the average annual yield in the regeneration season is 260 kilograms. Experts from the Fujian Academy of Agricultural Sciences believe that there are 50 million mu of paddy field in the south of China suitable for planting renewable rice. If it can reach the level of Youxi, the annual output of rice can be increased by 20 million tons, providing a strong guarantee for food security. (Reporter Wu Yulong)
