Zinc alloy is commonly used for more intricate designs due to its ease of casting. While it’s not as strong or rust-resistant as other materials, it’s ideal for creating detailed patterns. Many locks with complex shapes on the market are made from zinc alloy, so it's important for consumers to check the quality before purchasing.

Steel is known for its high strength and low cost, making it suitable for internal structural components of a lock. However, it's prone to rust and isn’t recommended for external parts that are exposed to the elements.

Aluminum or aluminum alloys are lightweight and easy to shape, but they are generally softer than other metals. Unless it's a specialized aerospace-grade alloy, regular aluminum may not be as durable as other materials. Still, it’s often used in applications where weight is a concern.
