Leading new security highlights the industry segmentation

Leading new security highlights the industry segmentation The 8th Global Digital Security Application Forum concluded its 2013 tour in Guangzhou, showcasing the latest innovations from leading security companies. Companies like Dahua, Hikvision, and Infinera were among the key participants, each unveiling cutting-edge products that reflect the industry's shift toward high-definition and intelligent solutions. "The future of security lies in high definition and intelligence," many industry experts emphasized during the event. As the competition intensifies, the focus is on smarter, more efficient systems that deliver better performance and user experience. Infinera made a notable appearance at the forum with its newly upgraded ABF version of the network camera, featuring an auto-focus function. According to Zhao Xiaohui, China Marketing Director at Infinera, users can now tap on specific areas within the video feed, and the camera will automatically zoom in for detailed monitoring. "This allows for more targeted surveillance, making it easier to track important events in real-time," she explained. Zhao noted that while the concept of auto-focus has existed in the industry for some time, early implementations faced challenges due to mechanical instability and high costs. However, Infinera has successfully refined the technology and managed to keep the price competitive. The company plans to roll out this product on a large scale in the coming months. The ABF network camera is part of Infinera’s fifth-generation T-series HD cameras, which have been praised for their exceptional video quality. Zhao revealed that the product has already seen strong market demand and is expected to contribute significantly to the company’s revenue in the near future. Meanwhile, other Zhejiang-based companies such as Dahua and Hikvision also presented innovative products. Dahua introduced a network camera using an encoding scheme developed by a U.S. security firm, replacing the previous TI-based system. This upgrade allows for improved storage efficiency. "Previously, a video required 4M to 8M of storage, but now it can be compressed to just 2M to 4M," said a Dahua representative. This means more video content can be stored in the same space, reducing overall storage costs. Hikvision also showcased its efforts to optimize storage capacity. Zhang Jiuyi, technical director of Hikvision’s Guangzhou branch, stated that the company has reduced storage needs by half through advanced R&D and technical support. Additionally, Hikvision demonstrated an intelligent network HD smart ball machine, capable of dynamic screen management, enhanced local resolution, and automatic tracking. "You can set up zones in the video system, and once an object enters the area, the camera will automatically track it," Zhang explained. Looking ahead, the products displayed by the top three security firms point to a broader trend: the integration of security systems into smart cities. All three companies emphasized the importance of building comprehensive platforms for safe and smart city initiatives. "The future direction is moving from a safe city to a smart city," Zhao said. "While safety provides protection, smart cities offer convenience and efficiency." She gave an example of how IoT technologies could help people plan their commutes by providing real-time traffic data. "This kind of functionality won’t take long to become widespread. It’s all based on existing systems, and we just need to add more intelligence and analytical capabilities," Zhao added. With continued innovation, the security industry is well-positioned to play a key role in shaping the cities of tomorrow.
