The 8th Global Digital Security Application Forum recently concluded its final event of 2013 in Guangzhou, bringing together key players in the security industry. Leading listed companies such as Dahua, Hikvision, and Infinera showcased their latest innovations at the event, highlighting a growing trend toward high-definition and intelligent security solutions. Many industry participants emphasized that the future of security products lies in advanced technologies that enhance both performance and user experience.
Infinera introduced a new version of its ABF network camera featuring auto-focus technology. According to Zhao Xiaohui, China Marketing Director at Infinera, users can tap on specific areas within the video feed, and the camera will automatically zoom in for closer monitoring. "This allows for more targeted surveillance, making it easier to track important details in real time," Zhao explained. Although the concept of auto-focus had been explored in the industry before, earlier models suffered from mechanical instability and high costs. Now, Infinera has refined the technology while keeping the price competitive, signaling the start of a large-scale marketing campaign.
The ABF version is part of Infinera’s fifth-generation T-series HD cameras, which are known for their exceptional video quality and reliability. Zhao noted that sales have been strong, and the product is expected to contribute significantly to the company's revenue in the coming months.
Meanwhile, other Zhejiang-based companies like Dahua and Hikvision also unveiled their latest advancements. Dahua's newest network camera utilizes an encoding scheme developed by a U.S. security firm, offering improved storage efficiency. Previously, similar cameras required 4M to 8M of storage per video, but with this new technology, the same quality can now be compressed into 2M to 4M. This improvement not only saves space but also allows for longer recording times without increasing hardware requirements.
Hikvision took a slightly different approach, focusing on reducing storage needs by half through advanced R&D capabilities. Zhang Jiuyi, technical director at Hikvision’s Guangzhou branch, highlighted that the company's efforts have led to significant improvements in data management. In addition to storage optimization, Hikvision also demonstrated an intelligent network HD smart ball camera capable of dynamic screen management and automatic tracking. This device can identify predefined zones and automatically follow objects that enter them, enhancing security monitoring in real-time.
Looking ahead, the focus of the security industry is shifting toward smart cities, where safety and convenience go hand in hand. Zhao Xiaohui of Infinera pointed out that the evolution from "safe cities" to "smart cities" represents a broader vision. "A safe city ensures security, but a smart city offers convenience through integrated systems like the Internet of Things," he said. For instance, drivers could use real-time traffic data to plan smoother commutes, showcasing how security technologies can support daily life beyond just protection.
As these companies continue to innovate, the future of the security industry looks increasingly intelligent, efficient, and deeply integrated into urban infrastructure.
