Sustained fermentation enters smart home security odds geometry

From 2014 until the year of 2014, the alarm industry began to change dramatically. With the high deployment rate of smart phones in the world, alarm suppliers have begun to provide users with home-device interaction capabilities. When the user forgets to lock the door or close the garage, he/she can control it remotely via a smartphone.

For example, a door lock manufacturer PDQ Manufacturing from the United States, and smart phone access control system and Bluetooth reader supplier ECKey recently launched a set of independent electronic door locks VIZ pin-enabled. The company claims that VIZpin-enabled is the first offline door lock to remotely send, withdraw and monitor VIZpin electronic locks via ECKey's Security as a Service (SaaS) using smartphone app or SMS. This usage model allows users to eliminate the cost and management overhead of traditional card/reader and keyboard-based systems. What's more, remote management can be eliminated without panels or complex IT networks, eliminating up to 75% of installation costs.

The novelties provided by the use of technologies from the IT industry have disrupted the traditional home burglar alarm system market. On the one hand, new technologies have injected more vitality, but on the other hand, they have brought more new ones. The move will make the competition even more intense. For all vendors who join the competition, the real question to ponder is: Before the ever-changing product options, the real user group.

Obviously, "intelligent" is the focus of most suppliers in home security/home automation. Only by injecting smart genes into the product will there be opportunities to break into the smart home market. For the smart home market with various types and unclear business models, Blake Kozak, an IHS senior security and construction technology analyst, defines smart home products as three types: "point security", "connection security" and "smart security".

"Point Security" means that the device is not interconnected with other devices. Each device has its own application target and can independently implement automation functions. For example, many of the Z-Wave and Wi-Fi garage door modules today are a separate part of the complete solution. In addition, integrated devices such as Piper are still positioned as point-safe products despite their ability to integrate more hardware features. The second type is "connection security" which is the traditional anti-theft alarm system. All of the system's devices are wired or wirelessly connected to a single panel, and automation is quite limited. The third is “smart security”, which means that all devices are connected through a central point and all devices can be managed with only one application.

As of now, "connection security" is still dominated by traditional security monitoring companies in the global market. However, recently, the market has changed, and more and more intelligent and point-safe DIY product suppliers have emerged in the US market, while the end user's demand for seamless integration of home appliances has also risen steadily.

In the future, "point security" products may become the key to the "smart system" transfer, because it is the many independent security products that are interconnected through wireless protocols such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth low energy, Zigbee, or Z-wave. Adding a platform that manages all hardware devices can create an intelligent system in the home, shop, or any small application. The concept of open technology will also lead to a large number of non-security IT companies entering the smart home market. But before this huge cake that can't be correctly predicted, the manufacturers from the traditional security monitoring field must have a clear business model in order to share a cup in the future smart home market.
