Oil geology exploration expert Qiu Zhongjian's sixty years looking for oil

Qiu Zhongjian has been fighting for oil and gas exploration for more than half a century and has been striving for the development of China's oil industry. Today, with the help of some major research topics, he has proposed a series of reference and decision-making suggestions for national energy planning and policy formulation.

"Twenty and one hundred and ten schooling langs, thirty to forty battles will be busy, fifty-six to explore sand sea, seventy and eighty love the sunset."

This is a poem written by Qiu Zhongjian, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and an expert in petroleum geological prospecting, when he went back 80 years of life experience and 60 years of oil geology work.

Although this 60th anniversary is not long in history, it is an important time period for the history of the new China's oil industry, which is not too long. He is an important participant in China's oil industry.

Qiu Zhongjian, the old man in front of him, thought that: “I’m generally very simple. From the time I graduated to the present, it was summed up in two words as 'finding for oil' and the three words as 'finding for oil and gas'.” In this “simple” In the past 60 years, Qiu Lao has participated in oil and gas exploration in Songliao Petroleum Exploration, Bohai Bay Basin, Sichuan Basin, offshore waters, and Tarim Basin successively. He is an outstanding practitioner of China's terrestrial oil generation theory. He proposed major scientific research results such as the complex oil and gas accumulation theory in Bohai Bay, and made important contributions to the discovery and construction of a series of important oil and gas fields in China. At the same time, he is also an early promoter of successful foreign cooperation in the Chinese oil industry.

He sensibly told the reporter: "I am very fortunate to have been engaged in petroleum geology for 60 years. I am very happy if I have a future life. I will never regret it!"

Land battle to find oil can be said that Qiu Zhongjian's exploration years are almost all related to the battle.

The first general battle he experienced was the battle at Daqing Oilfield. From 1957, when the petroleum system first entered the Songliao Plain and began a comprehensive study of geological surveys, after well-placed demonstration and point-perforation oil testing, Song Chi Mitsui won fuel injection on the eve of National Day in 1959. Qiu Zhongjian participated in the discovery of Daqing Oilfield. process.

This matter has to start from the beginning of 1957. At that time, the Xi'an Oilfield Research Office established the Songliao Plain Geological Research Team, numbered 116, and went to the Songliao Basin to carry out comprehensive oil and gas research and long-term evaluation. The 24-year-old Qiu Zhongjian was appointed as the captain and geologist, and received direct arrangements from the Exploration Department of the Ministry of Petroleum and led the team to the front station to understand how the prospect of oil and gas in the Songliao Plain was resolved.

Qiu Zhongjian was a tyrant of wind and collected mud specimens during the day. In the evening, a kerosene lamp was arranged on the soil of the farmhouse.

Although the work is hard, but Qiu Lao feels "a great deal." After one year of hard work, Qiu Zhongjian pointed out in his “116 Annual Annual Report of the Geological Research Team” that the Songliao Basin is a promising area with oil prospects. It is necessary to increase exploration work as soon as possible to drill reference wells as soon as possible. An alternative well position is proposed, one of which is located in the southern part of the Daqing Oilfield.

The Ministry of Petroleum Industry decided in June 1958 to establish the Songliao Petroleum Exploration Bureau and be directly led by the Ministry of Petroleum, accelerating the process of discovering the Daqing Oilfield.

At that time, the Ministry of Geology and the Ministry of Petroleum worked in the Songliao Plain at the same time and had a division of labor. The Department of Geology is responsible for the census, and the Ministry of Petroleum is responsible for the exploration and benchmark well drilling tasks. But both sides of the geological research work are ongoing. It is precisely because of this division of labor that they are inevitably different in their understanding of work. Qiu Zhongjian, a geologic geologist and general research team leader at the time, recalled: “Especially when the reference well was drilled, especially when it hit the third well, it was the biggest difference.”

The third well is Matsui Mitsui. In view of the fact that the Ministry of Petroleum was not only to explore the ground but also to detect oil, in order to speed up the oil search process, the geological researcher of the Songliao Petroleum Exploration Bureau of the Ministry of Petroleum proposed that Songji Mitsui be built in the deep sag in the Datong Town with structures, that is, Look for oily structures in deep depressions. “Because that is the most promising area, it is the best location for the benchmark well.” Qiu Zhongjian recalled, “but some comrades of the Songliao Census Brigade of the Ministry of Geology advocated the even distribution of the reference wells in the basin, and will be the Songji Mitsui well. Located in the southwestern part of the Songliao Plain, Kaitong County in Jilin Province, and the Songjiyi Well and the Songji Second Well are generally triangular in shape and distributed evenly. The main purpose of doing so is to understand the sequence of the strata.”

With controversy, there will be discussions between each other. After repeated discussions and consultations between the two major system technicians of the Ministry of Petroleum and the Ministry of Geology, they finally decided to drill on the Gaotaizi structure at Changtong Township.

"This well is a product of a great collaboration." Qiu Zhongjian explained, "Because the benchmark well is under the charge of the Ministry of Petroleum and the Ministry of Petroleum invests, and the Department of Geology has basic data, we use the data of the Ministry of Geology, plus our own judgment. Only this position was determined."

When oil sands were discovered in this well, the Ministry of Petroleum attached great importance to this work. Zhao Shengzheng and Qiu Zhongjian and three other working groups were sent to the site of Songji Mitsui to take charge of the perforation test. After working at the well site for more than four months, he worked with drilling workers to eat, live, and work together, and participated in the whole process of cementing test.

At 4 o'clock on the 26th of September, when they used the method of fishing to drain the wellbore water and replace it completely with an oil column, the Songji 3 well was fueled and the whole party was happy. “As an oil seeker, he can see the oil well and see how it can be sprayed. It's so happy.” Qiu Zhongjian and his colleagues shed tears of excitement and embraced each other excitedly.

This is a major achievement made by China's oil industry. At the time of the 10th anniversary of National Day, the oil field was therefore named "Daqing."

As one of the discoverers of Daqing Oilfield, Qiu Zhongjian won the first prize of the National Natural Science Award in 1982, and the project titled “Earth Science Work in the Discovery of Daqing Oilfield”.

The wheels of history roll forward. In early 1964, Qiu Zhongjian participated in the battle of Shengli Oilfield and participated in the discovery and evaluation of Shengli large oilfield. Only one year in 1965, he was instructed to participate in the Sichuan Gas Field Campaign. He was appointed as the Director of the Geological Office and was appointed as the leader of the working group to go to Weiyuan Wei 2 well to successfully transform a low-production well. It became a high-yield well and continued to evaluate the implementation of the large-scale gas field in Weiyuan. At the same time, a number of gas fields were discovered in the vicinity of Luzhou.

It is unpredictable that after the start of the Cultural Day, the battle was forced to be interrupted.

In 1972, Qiu Zhongjian returned to Beijing from the May 7th Gansu and continued his oil exploration work day and night. At this time, the Bohai Bay Basin is undergoing large-scale exploration. Due to the large number of large faults in the basin, the oil layers on the structural belt were cut into several block sizes. The finer the work, the more faults and the smaller the fault blocks, which made the exploration work fall into the quagmire of the fault block. The progress of exploration and evaluation has been slow. Some blocks and even exploratory wells have more than the development wells, but they still have no essentials.

Qiu Zhongjian was the head of the Bohai Bay Group at the Petroleum Exploration Institute. He and his comrades worked together to study the Bohai Bay Basin as a whole, and focused on the anatomy of five structural fault zones to study the exploration process, geological conditions, and oil status. He found that faults and fault blocks are indeed an important factor, but they are not the only controlling factors. At the National Exploration Work Conference in 1974, Qiu Zhongjian stated: “The Bohai Bay Basin is multi-convex and multi-concave, with multiple belts overlapping and influencing each other. Some secondary belts are combined, and some are connected with nearby protrusions, slopes, and partial depressions. As a result, a regional relative structural tectonic zone was formed, in which the various factors such as oil generation, oil storage, formations, faults, and tectonic structures were intertwined and combined to form a large-scale, comprehensive type of oil and gas accumulation. The oil and gas accumulation unit. We call it the complex oil and gas accumulation area.” At the same time, Qiu Zhongjian also proposed that the secondary structural fault zone is also an integrated complex hydrocarbon accumulation zone. There are many forms of hydrocarbon accumulation.

This concept complements and enriches the concept of exploration that only focuses on faults and fault blocks, enabling the exploration work to enter a new stage that is oriented to the overall situation and to the whole. In 1985, Qiu Zhongjian won the National Science and Technology Progress Grand Prize as the main participant. The project is "The Formation Theory and Practice of Complex Gas-Gas Concentration Zone (Zone) in Bohai Bay."

On June 20, 2011, the start-up meeting for the project of the “China's Unconventional Natural Gas Development and Utilization Strategy”, a major consulting project of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2011, was held in Beijing. Qiu Zhongjian is the head of the task group of the "Study on the potential and development strategy of shale gas and tight gas resources in China". Qiu Zhongjian stated that China's natural gas development has largely lagged behind the oil industry for 30 years. He vividly called it: "Today, the state of development of natural gas is equivalent to the stage where Daqing Oilfield was discovered. It has enormous potential, and from the perspective of conventional and unconventional natural gas resources, the output of natural gas will surely surpass oil in the future."

In the case of shale gas, Qiu Zhongjian believes that he must vigorously carry out technological research and he must do more concrete work. He must open up some large experimental areas and demonstration areas for demonstration, and try to do practical work as far as possible, and production indicators can be appropriately lowered.

From the perspective of oil and gas exploration, Qiu Zhongjian said with emotion: “It is very embarrassing that we have a gap in the spirit of innovation compared with the American oil people.” He believes that the United States has explored and developed for many years, conventional oil and gas production has been falling, but they have achieved shale. The anger has rekindled the oil industry.

Qiu Zhongjian believes: “Since the reform and opening up, we have been desperately studying abroad and we have indeed gained many benefits. But we are also a nation that advocates innovation. Independent innovation will definitely add new vitality to the development of the oil industry.”
