New locks made from polymers

Introduction

Serrature Meroni manufactures mechanical and electronic locks and closure systems and is widely used in doors, furniture, utilities, vending machines and other special applications.

Among the different styles of the PremiApri lock, a new lock has recently been developed and named Combina. In order to keep up with the times, the Combina uses a special thermoplastic material.

Special material development

LATI combines the design philosophy of Serrature Meroni to provide engineered thermoplastics for design requirements and project technology.

The lock body of the ball lock is actually a structural frame with a metal material and a LATI thermoplastic material. Metallic styles are realized in die-cast Zamak materials (alloys of zinc, aluminum and magnesium), one of the most recognized and reliable materials used in the architectural design and furniture industries. This material is hard and strong, providing not only the required mechanical properties, but also the best surface quality.

The thermoplastic material is made by injection molding technology and utilizes the innovative specialty resin developed by LATI called LATIGLOSS. This material is also specially developed for the portal hardware and furniture industry. It is a nylon 66 blend reinforced with 50% glass fiber, blended with special additives to provide excellent surface gloss.

Of course, one of the typical limitations of glass-reinforced thermoplastics is the final surface quality: glass fibers generally expose the outer surface, resulting in uneven color effects, and the worst case is a visible flow line. In order to prevent this from happening, mold engineers have to extend the molding cycle or take time to warm up.

The locks and locks of the new locks Combina are made of different modified thermoplastics to achieve uniformity of strength and aesthetics.

Unlike traditional materials, Latigloss does not require extended molding cycle times, while providing superior mechanical properties (similar to metal) and top surface smoothness and gloss.

The upper wide lock cap consists of a thermoplastic resin called Kelon manufactured by LATI. Kelon (abbreviation for the first letter of ceramics and nylon in English) is a nylon 6 based polymer blended with special ceramic pellets and heat stabilized. The presence of these microspheres and thermal stabilization processes gives the material high elastic values (the ability to maintain a rigid shape and resilience) and a uniform "high light" surface quality.

Combina locks are the same as the smoothness produced by the selection of world-renowned metal alloys through the selective combination of “smart polymers”, driving the development of traditional methods.
