Fluorine (trifluralin) is a broad-spectrum herbicide that works by contact and is systemic in nature. Due to its wide range of effectiveness and good performance, it has become very popular among farmers. It can generally be applied to the soil before sowing for vegetables such as kidney beans, kale, lettuce, and carrots. The recommended dosage is 150–200 grams of 48% emulsifiable oil per 667 square meters, mixed with 75–100 liters of water. After thorough mixing, spray evenly using a sprayer. For best results, it should be incorporated into the soil immediately after application.
Important notes: Trifluralin is prone to photolysis and volatilization, so it should be used right after spraying; otherwise, its effectiveness may decrease. Its main mode of action is to interfere with the growth and transport of plant hormones, inhibiting cell division. However, it does not prevent the germination of weed seeds, so it cannot kill dormant weeds.
Alachlor, also known as Lasso, is a systemic pre-emergence herbicide. It should not be used on cucumbers, leeks, or spinach, but it is suitable for most other vegetables. Apply 300–500 grams of the product per 667 square meters, mixed with 40–50 liters of water, and spray evenly before sowing or transplanting. Then cover the soil lightly. If the field is covered with plastic film, reduce the dose by about one-third to one-half. Alachlor is particularly effective against annual grasses and some broadleaf weeds.
