Yuan Yuping, the vice general manager of Jiangsu Baierte Optoelectronics Equipment Co., Ltd., recently shared exciting news at the “Bayer Optoelectronics Media Meeting†held on the 13th. The company has successfully developed a production capacity for single crystal silicon rods after three years of dedicated research and development. Their latest achievement is the TDR-105 single crystal furnace, which can produce up to 350 kg of high-efficiency, energy-saving monocrystalline silicon. The effective crystallization rate of this furnace exceeds 85%, marking a significant milestone in China’s semiconductor industry. This breakthrough confirms that China's technology in producing single crystal silicon rods has reached an international advanced level.
As part of its strategy to lead global process technologies, Bayer Optoelectronics has been focusing on developing large-scale Czochralski crystal furnaces. In 2011, the company allocated special research funds and gathered experts from various fields, including mechanical engineering, automation, and software development. Their goal was to create a high-efficiency, energy-saving TDR-105 single crystal furnace with a capacity of 350 kg, aiming to meet the growing demands of the international market.
According to Yuan Yuping, the newly developed 350 kg single crystal furnace features several technological innovations. The furnace design has been optimized to improve gas flow direction, significantly reducing energy loss. Additionally, through extensive research, the transmission system has become more stable and reliable. Currently, most domestic production facilities use furnaces with a maximum input capacity of only 180 kg. With the TDR-105, production costs are expected to drop by around 30% compared to older models, while energy consumption could be reduced by approximately 20%.
Yuan also revealed that the N-type single crystal silicon rods produced using the new furnace were processed into IBC solar cells by the International Solar Energy Research Center in Konstanz, Germany. These cells achieved a conversion efficiency of 22.3%, placing them among the world’s most advanced. Meanwhile, P-type monocrystalline silicon rods have also shown excellent performance, with conversion efficiencies reaching 19.5% when manufactured by domestic companies.
To accelerate the industrial application of the TDR-105 furnace, Bayer Optoelectronics has begun setting up demonstration bases in Yixing City, Jiangsu Province. This initiative aims to support the widespread adoption of the technology in the solar energy sector. (Reporter: Guo Guozhong)
