Xi'an Jiaotong University Research and Development Coulomb Efficiency Silicon Lithium Battery

Recently, Prof. Zheng Xiaoquan of the School of Electrical Engineering at Xi'an Jiaotong University and Professor Cui Wei of the Material Institute of Stanford University and Professor Li Ju of the Department of Nuclear Technology of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology jointly cooperated to coat the outer surface of the negative electrode of nano silicon by a special method. An artificial TiO2 nanolayer was synthesized to synthesize a Si@TiO2yolk-shell negative electrode with high mechanical strength, and a Si@TiO2 structured silicon negative electrode full cell with high solid density was fabricated, achieving a volumetric capacity twice that of the conventional graphite negative electrode. And 2 times the mass capacity.

Currently commercial lithium-ion batteries are only used for low-order power supply requirements, and silicon is expected to be the next-generation lithium-ion battery large-capacity negative electrode material because its theoretical specific capacity is more than 10 times that of conventional graphite negative electrodes. However, the problem of low coulombic efficiency of the silicon negative electrode during charge and discharge has not been overcome.

After the experimental test, the new results of titanium dioxide shell mechanical strength is 5 times that of amorphous carbon, can make the stable Coulomb efficiency of 99.9% or more, meet the industrial application standards, will effectively promote the silicon anode in the battery industry business application. This achievement was recently published in the "Energy and Environmental Science".
