Photovoltaic industry is misunderstood "high pollution, high energy consumption"

Liu Hanyuan was interviewed by reporters.

With regard to "high energy consumption", it is more simple to see that the production of polysilicon per kilogram consumes nearly 100 kWh of electricity. However, from the point of view of energy utilization, one kWh of electricity is used to produce polysilicon, and finally a solar photovoltaic module is formed. In the effective life cycle (25-30 years), it can return 25-30 kWh, up to 30- 50 kWh.

Multiple good news came in, and the Chinese PV industry in the bottom was looking forward to the dawn.

As the big brother of Sichuan's photovoltaic industry, yesterday when Liu Hanyuan, who had just returned to China, said in an exclusive interview with reporters, the temporary reconciliation between China and the EU’s “photovoltaic parties” only temporarily prevented China’s photovoltaic industry from catastrophic disaster. “I look forward to the dawn. But far from the cheering moment."

Investment in 1 degree polysilicon can return 50 kWh

Reporter: In addition to the “double reverse” strikes in Europe and the United States, China’s photovoltaic industry is still faced with so-called “high pollution and high energy consumption” in the development process. What do you think?

Liu Hanyuan: This is a false proposition that has severely misunderstood the photovoltaic industry for many years. At present, most photovoltaic companies with poor capacity may still have the phenomenon of “high pollution and high energy consumption”, but this cannot be magnified to represent the general awareness of the polysilicon industry in the photovoltaic industry, especially in the upstream of the industrial chain.

Due to the technical blockade imposed by foreign countries for decades, China's PV polysilicon development has indeed caused pollution on the emissions. However, the current photovoltaic industry generally adopts the latest and most advanced closed-cycle production technology. The mainstream domestic manufacturers, environmental protection, almost zero emissions, can not see the leak everywhere, all over the ground pollution.

Reporter: Even though technology has made great progress, it does consume a lot of energy in the polysilicon production process.

Liu Hanyuan: With regard to “high energy consumption”, it is more simple to see that the production of polysilicon per kilogram consumes nearly 100 kWh of electricity. However, from the point of view of energy utilization, one kWh of electricity is used to produce polysilicon, and finally a solar photovoltaic module is formed. In the effective life cycle (25-30 years), it can return 25-30 kWh, up to 30- 50 kWh. This is unique in the history of human energy use.

The development of the photovoltaic industry not only helps solve the problem of sustainable energy supply and sustainable economic development in China, but also is the fundamental way to implement the central government's repeatedly emphasized energy conservation, emission reduction, and economic growth and development.

60% of the world's total output installed in China only 7% of installed capacity

Reporter: Does China's photovoltaic industry have the conditions for vigorous development and wide application?

Liu Hanyuan: After more than ten years of development, China has become the world's largest producer and exporter of photovoltaic modules. In 2012, when the global PV industry was in a very sluggish situation, the output of China's PV modules still reached 23GW, accounting for 60% of the global output.

At present, the cost of China's photovoltaic power generation system has been controlled at RMB 5,000-8,000/kW, and the cost of photovoltaic power generation can be controlled at RMB 0.6-0.8/kWh. Energy consumption for all PV modules produced in the production process will be sufficient for a half year. Withdrawing, the poorly-lighted areas in Category III and IV can also be fully recovered in one year, while the components can be operated stably for 25-30 years, almost free of maintenance and zero emissions.

Reporter: However, production is more useless, and the application of photovoltaic products in China still lags behind.

Liu Hanyuan: Last year, China’s newly installed capacity for photovoltaic power generation was only 4GW, which only accounted for 7% of the world's total. The newly-added photovoltaic installed capacity accounted for only 1/20 of the 80 million kilowatts of new power generation installed capacity in the country that year.

Strengthen social consensus and clearly support policies

Reporter: In your opinion, what is the most important thing to break through the current plight of China's photovoltaic industry?

Liu Hanyuan: In recent years, the domestic photovoltaic industry has been in a difficult situation. Although there is a problem of mismatch between capacity and current demand, it is still in essence that the entire society has failed to recognize the development of the photovoltaic industry. This requires the country to first place the guidance and cohesion of social consensus on the most important position, and as a precondition or simultaneous measure to support the development of the photovoltaic industry, truly recognizes that the photovoltaic industry is the only way to solve the future energy of China and even the world.
