Minister of Commerce Chen Deming said at the 105th Canton Fair on the 16th that there have been some positive changes in China's foreign trade situation, and the decline in export has narrowed, but the situation of shrinking external market demand has not fundamentally changed. Development must strengthen confidence and not be taken lightly.
Chen Deming held a symposium on the foreign trade situation with the responsible persons and business representatives of the relevant provincial, municipal and local commerce departments participating in the Canton Fair, and exchanged ideas with the enterprises in the Canton Fair. He said that since the fourth quarter of last year, due to the impact of the international financial crisis, China's foreign trade development is facing severe challenges, but now there have been some positive signals.
"According to the published foreign trade data for the first quarter of 2009 and the latest foreign trade data from April 1 to 10, we can find that although the import and export data is still falling, the decline is gradually narrowing, which gives us a lot of Confidence," said Chen Deming. Since the opening of the Canton Fair yesterday, Chen Deming has been delighted by the rising passenger flow: “The customers who came to the conference were very enthusiastic, especially in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and the Arab countries.â€
Chen Deming also reminded that based on the fact that the external market has not undergone fundamental changes, it is necessary to estimate the difficulties more fully and make the various responses more solid. It is understood that in order to help export enterprises, the current Canton Fair specially invited more than 100 domestic retail enterprises to increase the domestic production of export commodities. Chen Deming said: "Foreign trade enterprises mainly rely on overseas orders, do not understand the brand and sales, and need domestic trade to help."
Since last year, the state has issued a series of policies and measures to support the development of foreign trade, including raising the export tax rebate rate and increasing financial support. Chen Deming said that we must promptly implement these measures to provide more support and services for enterprises to cope with the crisis and overcome difficulties. In the future, the Ministry of Commerce will further improve the investment environment, stabilize the scale of foreign investment, actively develop foreign investment and foreign engineering contracting, and promote foreign trade development through foreign investment and foreign economic work. In the midst of the crisis, the majority of enterprises must also practise internal strength, enhance the marketing capabilities of developing domestic and foreign markets, foster independent brands, and enhance comprehensive competitiveness. The business sector, chambers of commerce, and enterprises must work together to deal with trade protectionism, support enterprises to actively respond to complaints, and safeguard their legitimate rights and interests.
