Linear Technology Corporation introduces the LTC3260 and LTC3261, a universal high voltage charge pump. The LTC3261 is a high voltage, negative output charge pump that delivers up to 100mA of output current. The LTC3260 has the same charge pump as the LTC3261, but also includes two positive and negative LDO regulators, each providing up to 50mA of output current. The negative LDO post regulator is powered by the output of the negative output charge pump. Positive and negative LDO output voltage can be adjusted with an external resistor divider to 1.2V and -1.2V respectively. Both devices operate over a wide input voltage range of 4.5V to 32V. The LTC3260 and LTC3261's internal charge pumps operate in low quiescent current BurstMode® or low noise constant frequency mode with up to 88% efficiency. Charge pump output regulated to -0.94 • VIN when operating in breakout mode. In addition, when operating in Burst Mode, if both LDOs are active, the LTC3261 draws only 60μA quiescent current while the LTC3261 draws 100μA. Constant frequency operation provides low input and output ripple; in this mode, the charge pump generates an output equal to -VIN and operates at a fixed 500kHz frequency or with an external resistor in the frequency range of 50kHz to 500kHz. Other IC features include few external components, a ceramic capacitor that is stable, a soft-start circuit that prevents over-current during startup, and short-circuit and over-temperature protection. The LTC3260 and LTC3261 are ideal for a wide range of applications such as low noise bipolar / negative output power supplies with high voltage inputs, low noise bias voltage generators for industrial / instrumentation, portable medical equipment and automotive infotainment systems. The LTC3260 is available in a flat (0.75mm) 3mm × 4mm 14-lead DFN package and a 16-lead MSOP package with a bottom thermal pad in both packages. The LTC3261 is available in a 12-lead MSOP package and also has a bottom thermal pad. Both devices have E-Class and I-Class operating junction temperatures from -40 ° C to + 125 ° C.
